A good dog deserves a good bone.

Good conduct or valuable effort deserves a reward that reflects its worth. The proverb argues for treating a deserving person generously rather than taking their contribution for granted.

The dog and its bone make that principle concrete: when someone has proved worthy of appreciation, recognition should be more than a token gesture.

Use this proverb when arguing that someone who has performed well should be rewarded accordingly, or when approving a decision to recognize dependable effort.
