Every one basteth the fat hog, while the lean one burneth.

People often direct attention, favors, or extra resources toward those who already have plenty, while those in greater need are neglected. The saying uses an archaic cooking image, not a literal instruction.

It criticizes unequal care rather than simply the fact that one person prospers more than another: the well-provided-for receive further benefit, while disadvantaged people are left to endure harm without help.

Use it to criticize a situation in which people already successful or well supported receive further help while those with greater needs are ignored. Its culinary metaphor and archaic wording make it markedly old-fashioned, best suited to reflective, historical, or literary contexts.
