Kindnesses, like grain, increase by sowing.

Acts of kindness are likened to seed: when they are deliberately spread through generous conduct, they tend to produce further goodwill. The saying presents benevolence as something that grows through being given rather than hoarded.

It encourages initiating helpful or considerate behavior without treating kindness as a finite supply. Its image suggests an indirect return: one generous act may influence others, strengthen trust, or create conditions for more kindness to follow, rather than guaranteeing repayment by a particular person.

Use this proverb to encourage generosity, cooperation, or a first conciliatory gesture. It suits reflections on how considerate actions can foster a more supportive atmosphere, while avoiding any promise that every kind act will receive an immediate personal reward.
