English translation

My lady had everything she could want; all she was missing was the master and his silly pointed cap.

Literal wording

Nothing was lacking for my lady except my master's tall pointed cap.

Meaning and lesson

The saying mocks a woman, the lady of a household, who married in the hope of bettering her life, only to find that her new husband, the master, brings her nothing. He drifts around the house to no purpose, so the marriage meant to relieve her becomes one more weight on top of what she already carried.

More broadly, it scoffs at any supposed remedy that turns out to be a fresh nuisance. The ironic claim that she lacked only his tall, funnel-like pointed cap stands in for the husband himself. It presents the useless newcomer as a ridiculous ornament piled onto existing troubles rather than a real help.

When it is used

Use it sarcastically when something brought in to fix a situation only adds a new burden, especially a person who contributes nothing. It suits wry complaint about a disappointing match or helper; aimed at a specific person's spouse, it can land as a pointed insult.
