Meaning: Verified
English translation

She kept one day of the fast, then paraded out to celebrate the Eid.

Literal wording

She fasted one day and went strutting off to the Feast.

Meaning and lesson

The picture is of a woman who skipped the Ramadan fast for the entire month, kept only its final day, and then sashayed out with a showy, self-satisfied gait to greet the Eid feast, which follows a full month of fasting, as proudly as someone who had fasted faithfully throughout.

The saying ridicules a person who does something small or worthless yet expects to be seen and treated as though they had achieved much more. It targets the gap between a meager deed and the honor its doer claims.

When it is used

Use it as a teasing or sharp remark when anyone, despite the feminine image, contributes a token effort, often at the last minute, then demands praise, credit, or a share of the reward as if they had carried the whole load. It mocks inflated self-regard.
