English translation

The liar's house goes up in flames.

Literal wording

The liar — his house gets burned.

Meaning and lesson

The saying describes a habitual liar whose genuine emergency goes unanswered. Repeated false alarms have worn away the trust of those around him, so when his house truly catches fire and he calls for help, no one comes. It is a general observation about how dishonesty destroys credibility, not a guarantee that every liar meets the same fate.

Its lesson is that the loss lands hardest when a liar most needs to be believed. Speakers may use it as a plain warning against lying, or more bitterly as a verdict that the liar has earned the neglect; the saying itself does not settle which tone is meant.

When it is used

Use it when someone with a record of invented pleas is ignored in a real emergency, or to warn that repeated lies cost future belief. It suits serious matters, not minor teasing. Never apply it to someone who made one honest mistake, and never treat it as a fixed rule.
