Meaning: Verified
English translation

The look isn't Mayy's, and the turns aren't hers either.

Literal wording

Neither is the look the look, nor are the turns the turns of Mayy.

Meaning and lesson

The saying rejects a supposed resemblance to Mayy, a woman's personal name here rather than a common noun, who serves as the model being measured against. The person being compared falls short on both points the proverb names. The overall look does not match, and neither do the turns, so the claimed likeness fails entirely.

It can also target an imitator. When someone copies another person's way of doing something and does it badly, the proverb observes that the copy reproduces neither the appearance nor the turns of the model it is aiming at.

When it is used

Say it wryly when someone is claimed to resemble another person but plainly does not, or when an imitator tries to copy someone's manner and falls short. It fits teasing or critical remarks better than neutral description.
