- English translation
The true yield becomes clear only after the grain has been threshed.
- Literal wording
Blessing lies beneath the threshing discs.
- Meaning and lesson
Do not judge a harvest by what appears at reaping. The image is of threshing discs: the real yield may emerge only after the crop has been fully processed, so anxiety about apparent scarcity can be premature.
More broadly, the saying counsels patience when results are still incomplete. What looks small at an intermediate stage may prove sufficient once further work reveals its value, without guaranteeing that every disappointing outcome will improve.
- When it is used
Use it to reassure someone assessing an outcome too soon, especially when further work may reveal the full amount or benefit. It suits delayed results and cautions against premature conclusions, rather than offering a general promise of good fortune.
