English translation

The vulture welcomes whatever the wolf does.

Literal wording

What the wolf does is pleasing to the vulture.

Meaning and lesson

The saying points to a relationship in which one party profits from another’s harmful conduct. The vulture is content because the wolf’s kill leaves something for it, even though the victim bears the loss.

It criticizes self-interested approval of conduct that is cruel, unfair, or damaging to others. Its animal imagery is accusatory, not complimentary: a beneficiary may welcome what harms someone else because it brings indirect gain.

When it is used

Use it when someone approves of another person’s harsh or exploitative behavior because they expect to benefit from its consequences. It rebukes praise driven by self-interest and is best reserved for indirect gain from harm, rather than ordinary cooperation or shared success.
